Music playing constantly makes life indescribably better—let’s hope it’s mostly rock, old and new, with some classical and rap or hiphop thrown in for a change. Play me yours and I’ll play you mine. Singing together and playing an instrument would be COOL--I sing well but play the uke rather poorly. And can you ever keep from dancing around your living room to a good song?
I did not have a paying career: I taught Montessori for a few years and then homeschooled my own 4 children until college (best thing I ever have done, except backpacking and skiing!) One thing this means is that my pee was never tested. Right now I am caring for my elderly mom. She pays me so that I don't have to have a job, but I am able to arrange vacations and backpacking trips in advance.
I backpack as many weeks of the year as I can get away with, usually about 12, although some knee arthritis might change that. I would like someone who is adventurous enough to sleep in a tent but laid back enough not to turn the hike into a competition of miles. I wish I could live outside and like any outdoor activity. When I travel (mostly to see my kids out west), I'd much prefer to car camp rather than fly, and to stay in my tent by a lake rather than in a hotel.
I believe in peacefulness, honesty, and gentleness, toward humans and animals (I'm a vegetarian.) I love to read and talk about books of many genres, and poetry, and I love to see plays, including but not limited to Shakespeare. On walks I will tell you poems I’ve memorized. As a young woman I read a lot of science fiction. I still have a love of Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, Asimov, and Bradbury. Now I read mostly realistic fiction (A Gentleman in Moscow!) with some nonfiction thrown in (Long Walk to Freedom, Mandela's bio.) And for several decades I collected comic books, mostly DC.
I believe in justice and equality for all. Although I am not an activist, I deeply believe that all people should be free to be who they are and to do what they like as long as they are not hurting others, and that their rights should be respected and protected. (In this way I am a good hippie!)
I am agnostic leaning toward atheism and do not understand or accept the idea that people need to believe in a god to be kind, loving, and good.
I do not drink: I was married to an alcoholic for 7 years, and that turned me off to drinking. I prefer a man who feels the same.
Let's talk and laugh long into the night. But in dating I mostly want to find someone who understands kindness, who knows how to go easy on those in his life. I hope someday to find a deep connection which will end in lifelong commitment and marriage (I'm not a good hippie in that area.)
Things I am not into: beaches (I don’t want to lie around all day—I would rather be hiking or biking or playing music), lots of travel (although I would do some if planned well), ocean cruises, dogs (I like them ok but don’t want to be around them too much), most boats (too limited an area to walk, although I do like an occasional day of canoeing), motel rooms, tvs (watching is ok but not my favorite thing, although I stream on my laptop sometimes), and alcohol; unkindness, disrespect, criticism, discrimination, verbal abuse, gaslighting, an inability to be kind while annoyed or angry, a tendency to turn away during difficult times or conversations, a refusal to read new science in areas like transgenderism (no, I am not trans) or psychedelic therapy, an oversimplification of a scientific theory like evolution.
“And though she be but little, she is fierce!”—Helena, about Hermia, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (I am not fierce, but I am intense, so be prepared.)
“Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmph. And well you should not.”—Yoda, Star Wars
"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."--Lennon
